Tradition on Womem After Childbirght (Logusalik Gelenekleri)have been more or less changed, but have been still prevailing at present day.According to this tradition a women who is mother of a newborn baby is called "Logusa".
Women who are "logusa" cannot get out of bed,go out,look at mirror and do any work at home for a period of forty days after child-birth.On the fortieth (40) day mother and baby take bath together.After bath of baby,visits starts for baby.This is called "Kirk Ucurma" (Flying of Forty). If mother of a newborn baby lives separate,she visit firstly her mother-in-low and then her own mother and kisses their hands. If she sits with her mother-in-low they perform visits together.
Wherever she visits, first of all a half glass of water is offered for the wish that she has much milk. Mother has to drink all of water offered her. After offering of water food is offered to her. Whoever sees the baby should customarily give presents such as egg,handkerchief,money etc.
Visits with baby to neighbours,friends and relatives are continued on various day. The same customary actions are repeateted in every visit made. However, mother is allowed to go out only her completion of fortieth day.
One days that mother is in her child-birth bed, however, relatives,neighbours and friends of mother bring as a custom such food and presents as milk,yoghurt,rice-pudding with milk (sutlac),sweet, etc. It is customary that first of all mother must taste foods so brought. Otherwise it is believed thet mother's milk will be cut.
It is found improper for mother to go out in the course of her being in her chikd-birth bed. If mother goes out then it is believed that mother will have bad luck. The way that mother is to be protected from such evil luck is not to let her go out.
When mother becomes ill,doctor is called to home and so necessary precautions are taken.
Babies are looked after with great care. They are cleaned up by having them take bathe frequently.Their nail cannot be cut until they reach their sixth month. If baby is a girl,her hands are dyed with henna with celebration. And then her nails are cut. Thereafter,whenever her nails get longer,her nails are cut.If baby is a boy,his hands are put into a pocket of his elders, and they see how much money he will take,and then his nails are cut. Following this process are not let to grow longer any more.
When a baby cuts a tooth,family cooks a meal called "Dis Bugdayi" (Tooth Weat). "Dis Bugdayi" is a form of appetiser (ceres) consisting of boiled wheat mixed with sugar. Beside "Dis Bugdayi" other appetisers bought are placed: the event of baby's cutting a tooth is celebrated by members of family, relatives, friends, neighbours in an entertainment.
The same entertainments are repeated when baby starts walking.
